Jerónimo Sánchez de Carranza

Jerónimo Sánchez de Carranza was a 16th century Spanish noble whose fencing manual, "De la Filosofía de las Armas y de su Destreza y la Aggresión y Defensa Cristiana" (On the Philosophy of Arms, their Skill, and Christian Offense and Defense), offered a complete system of fencing based on mathematics and geometry called la Verdadera Destreza. The style itself lasted in one form or another for nearly three centuries, and for a time made the Spanish some of the most formidable fencers in Europe.
Many thanks once more to Lois Spangler, one of my patrons, for taking the time to write a little something about the man.
